Banneker High School’s Student and Family Engagement (SAFE) Center continues to deliver on its promise to support the whole child. Earlier this month, more than 200 families received free meals and clothing at the center’s first-ever Pre-Thanksgiving Giveaway. “The event was a huge success for our school community,” said SAFE Center Director Igola Richardson. “I can’t thank our volunteers and community partners enough. Nina Giddens, Julian Woods and Kendall Henry, all Westlake High School students, are recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Young adults ages 16 to 25 who earn the honor have completed a minimum of 100 hours of community service. The President's Volunteer Service Award is an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and is administered by Points of Light. Through a shared mission of inspiring more to answer the call to service, the award celebrates the impact all citizens can all make in bettering their communities and the world. In a matchup against Alabama’s Lanier High School in August, Kendyle Alston became Westlake’s first female player to score in a varsity football game. Last month, the senior put an exclamation point on her career when she again kicked for an extra point helping her team to defeat Wheeler. Eight Vendors Selected to Provide Sanitation Services in South Fulton

The City of South Fulton is expected to complete the transition of public works services by November 19, which will include the launch of a new sanitation and recycling services model. Under the new model, residents will be allowed to select a sanitation services vendor that has met requirements outlined in Ordinance 2018-041. Approved vendors include: Advance Disposal, Community Waste Disposal, Fulton Sanitation, Lathan Home Sanitation, Reliable Sanitation, Republic Services, Waste Industries and Waste Management. It’s the last step to ensure the city continues to receive local option sales tax (LOST) dollars, approximately $24 million annually. CCRPI: South Fulton Schools by the Numbers

Yesterday, the Georgia Department of Education released the 2018 results for the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). The CCRPI, which was redesigned last year, uses an updated calculation approved as part of Georgia’s state plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Scores for 2018 are not comparable to any prior year. According to the data, Fulton County Schools’ performed above the state average. Fulton earned an overall CCRPI district score of 81 for 2018, which is 4.4 points above the state’s score of 76.6. Fulton’s scores exceeded the state at all levels, with the 2018 high school score of 82.2 showing the largest difference of nearly 7 points above the state’s score of 75.3. During last week's city council meeting, City Manager Odie Donald II introduced attendees to three key new hires: Melanie Winfield, assistant city manager; Christopher Pike, economic development administrator; and Jolene Butts Freeman, communications director. "Our ranks are growing and we're excited to have these folks join the team," said Donald.Winfield previously served as the assistant city attorney for the City of Memphis. South Fulton Gets Opportunity to Weigh in on AeroATL Greenway Plan

In early 2017, the Aerotropolis Atlanta Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs) were awarded a grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) to complete the AeroATL Greenway Plan. When finished, the comprehensive trail master plan will connect communities around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, including Forest Park, East Point, College Park, Hapeville, and portions of South Fulton and Clayton County. According to Kirsten Mote, program director at AACIDs, the area will include portions of Districts 1, 2 and 3 in the City of South Fulton. Residents of these districts are asked to complete a community survey and share their vision and thoughts on the master plan.
