School Board Member Kimberly Dove Sworn in for First Full Term

At Thursday's Board Meeting, Fulton County Board of Education member Kimberly Dove was sworn in to a four-year term of office which will begin in January. She represents District 6 which is comprised of parts of College Park, East Point, South Fulton and Union City. Dove was previously appointed in August 2017 to fill the unexpired term of former board member Catherine Maddox, who resigned due to health concerns. She later qualified as a candidate for the seat and won the election in May 2018. Councilwoman Helen Z. Willis has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2019 Public Safety and Crime Prevention (PSCP) federal advocacy committee. The committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving crime prevention, corrections, substance abuse, municipal fire policy, juvenile justice, disaster preparedness and relief, homeland security, domestic terrorism, court systems and gun control. Eight Vendors Selected to Provide Sanitation Services in South Fulton

The City of South Fulton is expected to complete the transition of public works services by November 19, which will include the launch of a new sanitation and recycling services model. Under the new model, residents will be allowed to select a sanitation services vendor that has met requirements outlined in Ordinance 2018-041. Approved vendors include: Advance Disposal, Community Waste Disposal, Fulton Sanitation, Lathan Home Sanitation, Reliable Sanitation, Republic Services, Waste Industries and Waste Management. It’s the last step to ensure the city continues to receive local option sales tax (LOST) dollars, approximately $24 million annually. During last week's city council meeting, City Manager Odie Donald II introduced attendees to three key new hires: Melanie Winfield, assistant city manager; Christopher Pike, economic development administrator; and Jolene Butts Freeman, communications director. "Our ranks are growing and we're excited to have these folks join the team," said Donald.Winfield previously served as the assistant city attorney for the City of Memphis.
