Meeting Called to Finalize Details for Second Investigative Hearing

The City of South Fulton will hold a special called meeting on December 16 at 3 p.m. at City Hall, 5440 Industrial Boulevard. It will be held in the break room.

The purpose of the meeting is to finalize the details for the second investigative hearing targeting Councilmember Helen Willis. She is accused of steering a development deal away from the South Fulton Development Authority to Fulton County and creating a hostile work environment.

The special called meeting agenda includes a number of items, including consideration of an alternative for dispute resolution, waiver of attorney client privilege and executive session privilege and disciplinary actions concerning other elected officials. During the meeting a subpoena issuing agent and hearing officer will also be designated.

The first hearing, held on December 10, was dismissed when the hearing officer, former judge Thelma Wyatt Cummings Moore, learned that the ordinance outlining the charges against Willis had not been signed by Mayor William “Bill” Edwards or the city attorney or clerk. The clerk has since been put on administrative leave.

A new hearing date has been set for December 30. A time and location have not yet been announced.
