Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) was recently appointed by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan to serve on the Senate Passenger Vehicle Seat Safety Belt Study Committee. The committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 366 during the 2019 legislative session. As outlined in the resolution, the committee will be comprised of five members and will study ways to increase seat belt safety in Georgia. The committee is required to submit their findings by December 1, 2019. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2016 seat safety belts in passenger vehicles saved the lives of nearly 15,000 drivers and passengers. During the Cedar Grove Community Association’s (CGCA) monthly meeting on June 3, five new committee directors were installed. The new directors are David Daniels, Lynn King, James Oliver, Jacey Sebastian and Mike Reuss. They’ll oversee the fire and environmental safety, police and neighborhood watch, community engagement, policy, and public works committees, respectively. President Eliese Fisher, Vice President Marisa Miller and Treasurer Annetta Fisher will continue in their current roles. Mayor William “Bill” Edwards attended the installation ceremony and meeting.
