This Week in South Fulton

Event organizers are adapting to social distancing requirements and moving many events online. Several meetings and events will be held via Zoom, Facebook, Instagram and other streaming platforms this week.

The City of South Fulton is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week. A series of events are planned, including community conversations with experts from the Small Business Administration, Georgia Power, UGA Small Business Development Center, GreyStone Power and more. Local small business owners will also be featured. Visit www.facebook.com/DestinationSouthFulton to view a schedule of events and live-streamed programming throughout the week.

South Fulton Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is also rolling out programming via Instagram @southfultonprca. Tune in daily for virtual workout sessions, live music, games and more.

Fulton County Library Streaming Storytime
Monday – Friday at 11 a.m.

While libraries are temporarily closed due to COVID-19, Fulton County Library is hosting special streaming storytime programs each weekday at 11 a.m. Join daily on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fulcolibrary.

Fulton County Sheriff Candidate Forum
Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m.

Councilwomen Carmalitha Gumbs and Helen Z. Willis will host a candidate forum featuring candidates for Fulton County Sheriff. The event will be moderated by WAOK’s Rashad Richey. All candidates have been confirmed. To register for this event please visit: www.tinyurl.com/cosfforum.

Fulton County School Board Work Session
Tuesday, May 5 at 12:30 p.m.

The school board will meet at 12:30 p.m. for executive session, followed by the board work session at approximately 1:00 p.m. All topics up for approval are posted on BoardDocs, a website that makes the school board agenda and all supporting documents available online. School board meetings can be watched live in a variety of ways: via television at FCSTV Comcast Channel 24, AT&T Ch. 99, and Google Fiber TV Ch. 145; via livestream on the FCSTV Communications website at www.fultonschools.org/fcstv or at https://bit.ly/FCSBoardMay5.  

Beyond Bernie: DSA Electeds on Building Power with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez
Tuesday, May 5 at 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, May 5, Councilman khalid kamau will take part in a National Town Hall with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the importance of voting in local elections. The event will begin at 8 p.m. Attendees should register in advance at https://bit.ly/khalidAOCTownHall.

City of South Fulton Finance Committee Meeting
Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m.

The City of South Fulton’s Finance Committee will meet virtually this week. The agenda will include the 2019 audit presentation. The meeting will be streamed via the city’s YouTube Channel.

Feeding the City of South Fulton Community Drive-Through Food Giveaway

The City of South Fulton in partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other organizations will distribute food at Welcome All Park on Thursday. Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m.

Mayor Edwards 60-for-60 Mentoring Information Session will take place on Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m. via a live online broadcast. In addition to Johnson, he’ll be joined by District 1 Councilwoman Dr. Catherine F. Rowell, a former big sister, Juliet Udeochu, BBBSMA volunteer recruitment manager and John Collins, power forward for the Atlanta Hawks. Those interested should register via Eventbrite to attend. A link to join the event will be distributed to registrants on the day of the event.

State Representative Candidate Forum
Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m.

Citizens for Excellence in Elected Leaders will host a candidate forum featuring candidates running for State Representative. Voters should register online to participate in the event.
