Commissioner Arrington to Honor Original ‘Black Panther’ Artist

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. and the Auburn Avenue Branch of the Fulton County Library System will host "The Color of Comics: Behind the Black Panther" on August 31. The event will honor Billy Graham, the late artist who was the first African-American to draw both the Black Panther and Luke Cage characters for Marvel in the 1970’s. Several panels and group discussions are also planned. Topics to be explored include Black femininity and masculinity in American comics. Don McGregor, the original writer of the Black Panther comic series, and Alex Simmons will lead a presentation on "The Black Behind the Panther."
