Atlanta Community Food Bank to Hold Spring Break Food Giveaway on April 9

Atlanta Community Food Bank is stepping up to provide food for Fulton County Schools families during spring break. The organization will distribute groceries at 10 locations on April 9 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Five of the distribution sites are in South Fulton County. They are: Prince Hall Grand Lodge, 7340 Old National Hwy; Chapel Hill Church Atlanta, 4330 Washington Road; East Point First Mallalieu UMC, 2651 N. Church Street; Elizabeth Baptist Church, 4245 Cascade Road; and Impact Ministries, New City Church, 3355 Old Jonesboro Road.

Mayor William “Bill” Edwards and Fulton County Commissioner Joe Carn have partnered with the organization to distribute food at Prince Hall Grand Lodge. Their event will begin at 10 a.m.

Atlanta Community Food Bank and its partner food pantries are considered part of the essential critical infrastructure workers by Homeland Security and the state of Georgia and remain operating when non-essential businesses are forced to close. Even as the governor’s order to shelter-in-place is in effect, those in need can still visit local food pantries for assistance. Smartphone users can text FindFood or Comida to 888-976-2232 to receive a list of pantries in their area.

Fulton County Schools launched a food distribution program on March 16 to continue to serve students meals three times a week while schools are closed. The program will be suspended during next week’s scheduled spring break. Fulton County Schools has provided a list of food pantries in South Fulton that can offer additional support. The list is below.
