League of Women Voters, NAACP Host Forum for Commissioner Candidates

Early voting is underway in Fulton County to determine who will be the next District 6 Commissioner, and fill the shoes of the late Emma Darnell. And voters are still getting to know the candidates. Three Councilmembers Face Challengers, Willis Unopposed

The city of South Fulton will hold a general election on November 5 to select councilmembers in Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7. Incumbents in three of the districts will face challengers. District 3 Councilwoman Helen A. Willis is unopposed. “I’m humbled and honored to be unopposed,” said Councilwoman Willis. “I will continue to be committed to my community and its progress.” In District 1, Mathis Ben Colquitt, a network engineer will challenge Councilwoman Catherine Foster Rowell. Forums Connect Commissioner Candidates to Community

Ahead of the election for Fulton County Commissioner District 6, South Fulton residents are getting to know the candidates via a series of forums in the local community. Voters will have a chance to connect with the candidates on August 3 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church (3310 Bethsaida Road, 30213) at 10:00 a.m. during a townhall meeting hosted by city of South Fulton Mayor Pro Tem and District 7 councilmember Mark Baker. On August 5, the Cedar Grove Community Association (CGCA) will hold a forum at Arlington Christian School (4500 Ridge Road, 30213) at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Sir Jose Bright will serve as the moderator. South Metro Democratic Women Hold Forum for District 6 Commissioner Candidates

On July 8, the South Metro Democratic Women's Council held the first candidate forum for those vying to become the next Fulton County Commissioner in District 6. The seat was previously held by the late Emma Darnell. Nine candidates have qualified to run: Khadijah Abdur-Rahman; Yoshina Colbert Bradford; Joe Carn; Carl Winfred Dorsey Jr.; Sonia Francis-Rolle; Sojourner Marable Grimmett; Warren C. Head Jr.; Rafer Johnson; and Gordon L. Joyner. Bradford, Francis-Rolle, Grimmett and Johnson are residents of the city of South Fulton, which comprises 50 percent of District 6. Four South Fulton Residents Vie for the Late Emma Darnell’s Seat

On September 17, voters in Fulton County’s District 6 will head to the polls to elect a new commissioner, following the death of the beloved Emma Darnell. The district includes Chattahoochee Hills, Fairburn, unincorporated Fulton County, Hapeville, Palmetto and portions of Atlanta, College Park, East Point, South Fulton and Union City.
