Westlake Lady Lions Receive Back-to-Back Championship Rings

Westlake High School’s Lady Lions received their back-to-back state basketball championship rings in a recent ceremony.“We’ve had some great athletes and some great students who’ve come through our program,” Coach Hilda Hankerson said. “You don’t repeat state championships without having a strong core, a nucleus you can depend on to win that championship again.”   Westlake won their first-ever state championship in Georgia’s 7A division in 2018. Jackson Calls for Support, Opposes School Board Vote to Demolish Meadows Center

Tonight, the Fulton County School Board will vote on the demolition of the Meadows Operations Center at 5270 Northfield Blvd. in South Fulton. Councilwoman Rosie Jackson opposes the demolition and is calling for the community to join her in speaking out. Jackson and five other members of South Fulton's City Council voted in favor of resolution 2019-009 in February to acquire and redevelop the Meadows Operation Center, a Fulton County Schools facility adjacent to Heritage Elementary in the Old National area. According to the resolution, the city desired to revive it to curtail crime and make it a source of pride for the community. School Board to Meet June 20 at the South Learning Center

The Fulton County Board of Education plans to meet tomorrow at the district’s South Learning Center, located at 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City, for its June 20 meeting. The meeting will convene at 4:00 p.m. for a pre-work session. Immediately following, the board will convene to executive session. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a public comment session. The action meeting officially begins afterwards. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board invites the public to a reception welcoming new Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney.   Most of the meeting’s agenda items were discussed fully at the June 11 work session and are expected to be approved with little or no discussion at the board table. FCS Names New Principals at South Fulton Schools

Fulton County Schools has named new principals for two schools in South Fulton. Marissa Wilson will serve as the new principal at Asa Philip Randolph Elementary School. Charles Chester will serve as principal at Langston Hughes High School. Both will host meet and greets at their respective schools on June 19. Wilson's event will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by Chester's at 6:00 p.m. While both will be joining new schools, neither are new to Fulton County. Wilson previously served as principal at Parklane Elementary in East Point. Chester most recently served as principal at Northwestern Middle School in Milton. FCS Superintendent Finalist to Meet with Public at Westlake on April 18

The Fulton County School (FCS) Board will announce the finalist for permanent Superintendent on April 17 at 12:00 p.m. at the Fulton County School North Learning Center (450 Northridge Parkway, Sandy Springs). In accordance with Georgia law, the school board must provide a minimum of 14 days for public input on the finalist before a final vote to fill the position. Principals, teachers, staff, parents and students are encouraged to meet the finalist and learn more about his or her vision for the school system.
