School Board to Hold Feb. 20 Meeting and Hearing on Closure of S.L. Lewis Elementary

The Fulton County Board of Education will meet Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the South Learning Center at 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City. All topics up for approval are posted on BoardDocs, including the closure of S.L. Lewis Elementary. In Capital Plan 2027 funded by ESPLOST, Fulton County Schools has outlined plans to close the existing S.L Lewis Elementary School and rebuild a new school at the same location to open Aug. 2026. Should the closure of S. L. Lewis Elementary be approved as anticipated during the Feb. 20 hearing, the facility will close permanently at the end of the school year, and students will be reassigned to Mary M. Redistricting 101: Fulton County Schools Parents Invited to Attend Info Sessions

Fulton County Schools (FCS) is planning a districtwide school redistricting effort. In South Fulton alone, there are capacity imbalances at more than 20 elementary schools, seven middle schools and five high schools. Parents are encouraged to attend virtual meetings to learn more. The meetings, titled Redistricting 101, are set for August 30 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and August 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the meetings, FCS staff will explain the redistricting process, including population trends throughout Fulton County, data, and the School Board's criteria used to create new attendance zone boundaries. The Fulton County Board of Education will meet Thursday, Aug. 11 at Fulton County Schools' North Learning Center, at 450 Northridge Parkway in Sandy Springs. FCS Pension Board to Meet May 11

The Pension Board of the Fulton County Schools Employees’ Pension Fund will meet on May 11. The board meets quarterly to discuss issues and act on items requiring approval.   The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the Fulton County School District’s South Learning Center, located at 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City, Ga.  The agenda is posted online. Meetings can be watched live on FCSTV Comcast Channel 24 or from a computer by visiting www.fultonschools.org/fcstv. A video recording will be archived on the board's website within 48 business hours.  All meetings of the Pension Board are open to the public unless designated as executive session, where the board must convene in private to discuss matters pertaining to investments or personnel items.

75 Fulton County Schools Accepting Transfers, Application Deadline May 16

The Fulton County School System has identified 75 schools accepting transfer students next school year through Georgia’s Quality Basic Education Act (HB251). Approved in 2009, the Intra-District School Choice section of the law allows parents of students enrolled in a public K-12 school to enroll in another school within the district if space allows. The application deadline is Monday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m., and parents will be notified of their child’s transfer status on June 30. There will be multiple ways to give back to the community over the long weekend in observance of MLK Day, also recognized as a national day of service. District 1 Councilwoman Catherine Rowell will join Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land for an event to beautify the Campbellton Creek Nature Preserve. The event will be held on Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. Participants should meet event organizers between Plummer Road and Riverside Drive in South Fulton.
