Thousands of Free Backpacks to be Distributed at Back-to-School Events in South Fulton

Back-to-school events kicked off in South Fulton this weekend with the 2nd Annual Healthy South Fuilton Family Fun Day. The event is sponsored by Touch of Life Chiropractic in partnership with Councilwomen Catherine Foster Rowell and Carmalitha Gumbs. Each year, hundreds of backpacks are given away. Additionally, vendors are available to connect families to important resources including healthcare providers, afterschool programs, extracurricular activities and more.

Back-to-school events will ramp up starting on Friday, July 26. Here are a list of events in and around South Fulton to keep on your radar:

State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague will host the 27th annual Mother Bertha Swan Back-to-School Jam 2019 on July 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Clarence Duncan Park in Fairburn. The event will feature food, games and activities, and students in attendance will receive free backpacks and school supplies. The event is free and open to the public, but attendees must R.S.V.P. by phone at 404-656-0220.

World Changers Church International will host a Back 2 School event on July 27 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ronald E. McNair Middle School (2800 Burdett Road, 30349). The ministry launches a multi-city back-to-school effort annually.

Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless will host a Back to School Jamboree on July 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center (2000 Covention Center Concourse, 30337). The organization will be distributing thousands of school supplies, food products, clothing items and more to support families and educators. More information is available via Eventbrite.

Renaissance Church of Christ (3675 Butner Road, 30349) will host SuccessFest on July 27 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at its new South Fulton location. Attendees will receive free information and resources related to academic, social and financial empowerment. The event will include a backpack giveaway, financial workshops, health and wellness screenings, food trucks and a basketball tournament. For more information, call 404-753-6271.

Dem Boi’s Book Bag and Supply Giveaways will be held on July 27 at Creel Park (2775 Creel Road, 30349) from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event will include face painting, food and beverages and a bounce house.

Atlanta’s Finest Barbershop (5044 Old National Hwy., 30349) Presents the 3rd Annual Back 2 School Backpack + Supplies Giveaway. The event is hosted by Jay the Connect with Special Guests Joc, Lovely Mimi, Goodshooter and Tabius Tate. There will be games, prizes, free food, nail painting, haircuts and more.

Just Biz Kidz Back-to-School Fair kicks off on July 27 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cliftondale Park (4645 Butner Road, 30349). The event inspires children to disover their inner entrepreneur and gives local youth the opportunity to showcase their own businesses. Click here for more info.

The Atlanta Hawks is partnering with the City of South Fulton Parks and Recreation Department and Councilwoman Helen Willis for a Back to School Celebration on August 1 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at Welcome All Park (4255 Lee Road, 30349) and include free school supplies, food, game trucks and more. Representatives from the Atlanta Hawks will be onsite until 12:00 p.m.

Commissioner Marvin Arrington will host his fifth annual back-to-school event, It Takes a Village, on August 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Wolf Creek Library (3100 Enon Road, 30349). School supplies will be provided to approximately one thousand students in attendance on a first-come-first-served basis. Refreshments will be served as supplies last. Councilman khalid kamau will host an Education Is the Way Out Back-2-School Block Party & Bookbag Giveaway on August 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Creel Park (2775 Creel Road, 30349). Principals, guidance counselors and community liaisons will be available to discuss what to do to get your child ready to head back to school. A panel of community activists featuring Transforming Youth‘s Chris Bazemore will discuss warning signs & intervention techniques in dealing with today’s troubled youth. 

Fulton County Schools will host its First Day Fulton Back to School Pep Rally on August 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Banneker High School (6015 Feldwood Road, 30349). Onsite registration will be available for new students and transitioning students. The event will also include a health fair with  a variety of vendors, entertainment and activities for children. School supplies will be available while supplies last.

The Housing Authority of Fulton County will host a Community Impact Day and Back to School Event on August 3 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at 4273 Wendell Drive, 30336. The event will include food, entertainment, free haircuts, face painting, horseback riding, a school supply giveaway and more. State Representative Roger Bruce will host a Back to School Supply Giveaway at Sandtown Pub (5819 Campbellton Road, 30331) on August 3 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be free food and drinks for children while supplies. last.

Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Classic will host a Community Day Event and Back-to-School Backpack Initiative on August 3 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the AMC 14 Camp Creek parking lot (3760 Princeton Lakes Pkwy. 30331). 250 pre-filled backpacks will be given away. The H.U.G.S. Foundation, Inc. and Fulton County Commissioner District 6 Candidate Sojourner Marable Grimmett will host a Back 2 School Bash on August 4, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at at Royal Roots Barber Shop, (2479 Delowe Drive, 30344). The free event will include music, face painting, vendors, free food and drinks, moonwalks and dance contests.

Councilwoman Helen Willis will host a District 3 Back to School Community Outreach on August 9 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Hickory Park Apartments (4900 Delano Road, 30349). Students will have a chance to meet teachers from Camp Creek Middle School and Seaborn Lee Elementary School. The event will include free food, haircuts, clothes, book bags, bouncy house, games and more.
