This month, we're celebrating South Fulton's Super Seniors!Meet Melaiah Hobbs, a member of Langston Hughes High School's Class of 2020. As captain of the volleyball team, she's used to aiming high. She's a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the Field of Dreams Academy, Inc.'s 2020 Student of the Year. Q1: What are some of the things that you've been proud to accomplish during your high school career? Westlake’s Woodhouse Named Finalist in ‘High 5 for Teachers’ Contest

Westlake High School’s Curtis Woodhouse is among the five finalists named in FOX 5’s “High 5 for Teachers” contest. The annual contest recognizes Georgia’s most exceptional high school educators. Woodhouse teaches Intro to Law, Criminal Essentials and Criminal Investigation. Through his curriculum, he’s teaching students how to make the world a better and safer place. But he’s also committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders, and giving all students the chance to make a difference in their school, community and on an even larger scale. Creekside Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian and ‘Order of the Arrow’

Creekside High School has announced the "Order of the Arrow," the top 10 percent of the Class of 2020. Leading the group of 38, Deshawn Johnson has been named valedictorian. Priya Bhowmick is this year's salutatorian and PAGE Star Student, earning the highest SAT score in her class. Each year Fulton County Schools names a Star Senior, a member of the graduating class that has been stellar in academics and extracurricular activities and has a unique story to tell. Today Governor Brian P. Kemp issued an executive order closing public elementary and secondary schools for in-person instruction through April 24, 2020. Students may return to school on Monday, April 27, 2020. Second FCS Employee Tests Positive for Coronavirus, Woodland Middle Opening Delayed Again

Fulton County public health officials have notified Fulton County Schools that an employee at Woodland Middle School in East Point has been confirmed to have COVID-19. As has been previously announced this week, Woodland Middle School is currently closed and being cleaned due to potential exposure from a different employee who served both Woodland Middle School and Bear Creek Middle School. Woodland Middle School was scheduled to re-open on March 17 based on the exposure in the first case; however, the employee was last in school on March 9  and the date to re-open is being moved to Monday, March 23, which is the same as Bear Creek Middle School. In both cases, the closure is to reduce risk of additional exposure during the 14-day waiting period recommended by the Centers for Diseas...

South Fulton Students Recognized for Leadership and Impact

Two South Fulton students are among 21 outstanding high schoolers selected to receive Georgia Youth Leadership Awards. Keith Harris and Kelsey Henderson, both Westlake High seniors, are being recognized for their significant impact in their school and community. The awards are presented annually by 21st Century Leaders (21 CL), a Georgia-based nonprofit youth leadership and talent development program. Fulton County Schools and South Fulton officials have announced additional closures and delays in response to a recent case of coronavirus at Bear Creek Middle School. Three South Fulton Schools Dismiss Early Due to Coronavirus

An immediate dismissal was enacted today for three South Fulton schools - Woodland Middle, Bear Creek Middle and Creekside High - following reports that a teacher has tested positive for COVID-19. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney shared in a press conference today at 3:30 p.m. that the teacher initially fell ill at Bear Creek on Friday. 911 was called and the teacher is currently being treated at a local hospital. The teacher had direct contact with students and staff at Woodland Middle and Bear Creek Middle. Creekside High was dismissed as precaution due to its proximity to Bear Creek Middle. Atlanta Science Festival Headed to South Fulton

The Atlanta Science Festival is underway. The annual two-week celebration of science and technology kicked off on March 6. And more than 100 related events will be held in the metro area through March 21. One of those events, Family Science Night, will take place in South Fulton at Stonewall Tell Elementary School on March 12 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event for all ages is free and open to the public, and will feature experiments, hands-on activities and even door prizes. Attendees will rotate through various stations to explore concepts such as food science, animal science, agriscience, 3D printing, biological science and more.
