Children’s Book Festival Set for May 14

A new Children's Book Festival is coming to the metro area thanks to the Fulton County Library System, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation and presenting sponsor PNC Bank. The festival will take place May 14 at the newly renovated Central Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The event is aimed at engaging young readers, from infants to teens, in all of the resources the library has to offer.  “The need for live, in-person and engaging events for youth that are focused on literacy has never been greater," said Fulton County Library System’s Executive Director Gayle H. Councilman khalid to Moderate Panel on ‘Modern Policing’ during Summer Block Party

Councilman khalid kamau's monthly summer block party series continues this Friday, July 12 at Creel Park (2775 Creel Road) at 7:00 p.m. The event will include live music, food trucks and an outdoor screening of "The Hate U Give." Based on the New York Times-bestselling novel by Angie Thomas, the film centers on a teen who witnesses the fatal shooting of her friend at the hands of police. In addition to outdoor screenings, each "South Fulton Summer" block party also features a community conversation on the themes in the films. This week, Black Lives Matter activists and Police Chief Keith Meadows will participate in the panel discussion on modern policing. Parking at Creel Park is free but limited. South Fulton Celebrates Fathers

Father's Day is June 16 and there are several events taking place to celebrate and honor South Fulton's dads. Councilwoman Naeema Gilyard will host a Father's Day Appreciation event in partnership with Arlington Christian School (4500 Ridge Road) on June 15 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event will include free food and drinks and a special surprise. Old National Entertainment (O.N.E.) and I'm A Father First will host Super Soaker Saturday Southside Edition at Creel Park (2775 Creel Road) on June 15 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The event will include a Father's Day cookout and water gun fight with a "stop the violence" theme.
