State Representative Mandisha Thomas (D-South Fulton) will host the “Heart of the Matter" virtual health summit on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 6- 8 p.m.  The summit takes place during American Hearth Month. Be The Match Encourages Donors to Join Registry During African-American Bone Marrow Awareness Month

For patients with sickle cell, leukemia, lymphoma, and more, a blood stem cell transplant from a genetically matched donor can be the key to a cure. However, of the 22 million people on the Be The Match registry, only four percent are Black or African-American. As a result, Black and African-American patients only have a 23 percent chance of finding a match by ethnicity compared to a 77 percent chance for White patients. Be The Match representatives and supporters are mobilizing Black and African-American donors to sign up for the registry during African-American Bone Marrow Awareness Month which is observed annually in July. South Fulton Councilmember Tests Positive for COVID-19

South Fulton Councilmember khalid kamau has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19. He's encouraging anyone that has had contact with him in the past 30 days to get tested. He'll be self-quarantining until he receives a negative test result. Councilmember khalid shared his story in a recent blog post. Over the last several months, he traveled to Key West, Fla. and participated protests against police brutality in South Fulton and downtown Atlanta. However, he thinks he may have gotten the virus from his roommate who works in the medical field. His roommate also tested positive. Officials Partner with Churches to Offer More Walk-Up COVID-19 Testing

The Fulton County Board of Health has partnered with local churches and members of South Fulton's City Council to offer more drive-thru and walk-up COVID-19 testing. Councilmembers Carmalitha Gumbs and Helen Z. Willis will join Pastor Dr. Gregory Pollard to host two free testing events at The Enon Church, 3550 Enon Road. The events will be held on July 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Hot meals will also be provided. Free Food Distribution and COVID-19 Testing Continues in South Fulton

City and county officials, churches and other entities are continuing efforts to provide free meals and additional COVID-19 testing sites in the South Fulton area. Food Distribution The City of South Fulton is continuing its free weekly food giveaway at Welcome All Park, 4255 Will Lee Road. This week, the event will shift rom Thursday to Friday, June 5. Food from the Atlanta Community Food Bank and hand sanitizer from Purest Hygiene will be distributed starting at 11 a.m. until supplies are gone. Walk-up COVID-19 Testing Available This Week at South Fulton Service Center

Walk-up COVID-19 testing will be available today, May 26 through Friday, May 29 at three early voting sites. The sites are: South Fulton Service Center, 5600 Stonewall Tell Road; Sandy Springs Library, 395 Mount Vernon Hwy. N.E.; and Garden Hills Elementary School, 285 Sheridan Dr. Testing is available from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Testing will be offered in facility parking lots and not impact early voting operations. Residents do not have to vote to receive testing, or vice versa. The mobile walk-up testing sites are part of a recently launched effort by the Fulton County Board of Health to increase access to testing and provide greater convenience. The Fulton County Board of Health recently rolled out mobile COVID-19 testing. Residents can walk up to the sites on designated days to be tested for free and without an appointment. Anyone can be tested, even if they are not experiencing symptoms. This week, the initiative will make a stop in the City of South Fulton for the first time. COVID-19 Test Site to Open at Wolf Creek Amphitheater

A new COVID-19 test site is open at Wolf Creek Amphitheater, 3025 Merk Road tomorrow. The site's operating hours are Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. "We're very proud because one of the issues around the country is the lack of testing," said Mayor William "Bill" Edwards in a video announcement. "Take advantage of this opportunity that we have for you." According to Fulton County Manager Dick Anderson, the drive-thru site has a daily capacity of up to 400.
