School Board to Discuss Millage Rate at July 16 Meeting

The Fulton County Board of Education will meet Tuesday, July 16 at the school system’s North Learning Center, located at 450 Northridge Parkwayin Sandy Springs. The board will convene for executive session at 9:30 a.m. with a pre-work session immediately following.  The business meeting will begin at 1 pm. The millage rate will be on the agenda. The tentative 2019 millage rate is 17.796. The rate will result in a decrease in property tax revenue from reassessed property by 4.16% based on the calculated 2019 tax digest. School board meetings can be watched live on FCSTV Comcast Channel 24 or from a computer through the videostreaming website. South Fulton to Hold Two Special Called Meetings

The city of South Fulton's mayor and council will hold two special called meetings this week. On Monday, July 15, they'll meet at 8:30 a.m. to discuss amending the zoning moratorium. They'll hear a first reading to amend the zoning ordinance to limit uses. On Wednesday, July 17, they will enter executive session at 11:00 a.m. to discuss real estate and litigation. Both meetings will be held at City Hall (5440 Fulton Industrial Blvd.) in the break room. Updated: South Fulton to Hold Public Hearings on Millage Rate

The City of South Fulton has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require a levy of 11.579 mills for 2019. The public hearing schedule has been updated. Three hearings will be held on the following dates and times: Thursday, August 1 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m; Thursday, August 8 at 6:00 p.m. The rate will be set at the third hearing. Development Authority to Meet on July 10

The South Fulton Development Authority will meet on Wednesday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott (7775 Ella Lane). Although the group first met in May at Welcome All Park, this will be their first meeting since being sworn in on June 11. In December 2018, the city council voted to activate the development authority for the "purpose of developing and promoting the public good and general welfare, trade, commerce, industry and employment opportunities." Authority members' general duties include analyzing economic activity in the city, studying the impact of growth, and creating and implementing plans for the development of public or private facilities. South Fulton Ethics Board to Hold First Meeting on June 24

The City of South Fulton Board of Ethics will hold its inaugural meeting at City Hall (5440 Fulton Industrial Boulevard) on Monday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m. Mayor William "Bill" Edwards and each member of the City Council were given the opportunity to appoint a member to the board. The members are: Overtis Hicks Brantley, Esq.; Charles Hodges, Esq.; Kenneth F. Joe; Jill E. Pope, Esq.; Jewel Johnson; and Kalvin Johnson. School Board to Meet June 20 at the South Learning Center

The Fulton County Board of Education plans to meet tomorrow at the district’s South Learning Center, located at 4025 Flat Shoals Road in Union City, for its June 20 meeting. The meeting will convene at 4:00 p.m. for a pre-work session. Immediately following, the board will convene to executive session. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a public comment session. The action meeting officially begins afterwards. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board invites the public to a reception welcoming new Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney.   Most of the meeting’s agenda items were discussed fully at the June 11 work session and are expected to be approved with little or no discussion at the board table. Loch Lomond Townhall Set for Dec. 20

On Thursday, December 20, Mayor William "Bill" Edwards and District 1 Councilwoman Catherine Foster Rowell will host a townhall meeting to welcome Loch Lomond residents into the City of South Fulton. In 2016 Loch Lomond, a community of about 700 residents located between I-285 and Camp Creek Parkway, was annexed into the City of Atlanta. On October 26, 2018, the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled that it was improperly annexed into Atlanta, making the community part of the City of South Fulton. “We welcome the Loch Lomond community to the City and we applaud the efforts of the residents who worked together to bring this to fruition,” said Edwards. “Their accomplishment is a testament to what the voice of the people can do.” The townhall will be held at the Southwest Arts Center, located at 91...
