Sandtown Residents Collaborate with Artist on City’s First Creative Placemaking Project

After a series of community brainstorming meetings and coordination with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), South Fulton's first creative placemaking project has been installed. The four-panel monument in the roundabout at the intersection of Campbellton, Boat Rock and New Hope showcases the diverse natural surroundings of the Sandtown community. The project, which began in 2018, was spearheaded by District 1 Councilwoman Catherine Foster Rowell. She tapped local artist Allen Peterson to produce the artwork. Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will implement a closure and detour at Creek Pointe Way and Camp Creek Parkway for approximately two days to install a 30’’ drain for the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) project at I-285 and Camp Creek Parkway. Overnight Lane Closures on SR 74/S Fulton Pkwy for Resurfacing This Weekend

Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will continue resurfacing activities this weekend on SR 74/South Fulton Parkway between SR 14 and the Fayette County line in Fulton County.  Weather permitting, work crews will implement single overnight lane closures on Friday, July 12 from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am Saturday, and on Sunday, July 14 from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. on Monday.  Crews will be patching the roadway, preliminary work for the resurfacing needed to improve the roadway’s deteriorated condition. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2019.Motorists traveling in the area should reduce their speeds in the work zone. Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plan to implement a traffic shift in conjunction with on-going construction of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) project at I-285 and State Route 6/ Camp Creek Parkway in Fulton County.  Weather permitting, on Monday, June 10, crews will shift traffic access to the lanes on the south side of the DDI bridge. Weather permitting, these are the scheduled lane closures on I-285 northbound at the Camp Creek Parkway exit: Two right lanes will be closed overnight from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31 until 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, and Two left lanes will be closed overnight from 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 until 4:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3.
