A city and regional effort is underway to drive engagement around parks, zoning and transportation. Parks Master Plan Survey The City of South Fulton is asking residents to complete a survey to gather data for its parks master plan by May 9. The survey gives residents an opportunity to weigh in on the condition of the facilities, unmet needs, how they'd prioritize investment in parks and arts, and more. "The purpose of the parks master plan is to identify the needs and priorities of the community from a parks and recreation standpoint, and look at ways to enhance the parks system as well as programs in the community," said Carlos Perez, the consultant leading the effort. South Fulton Reissues Call for Mentors, Virtual Event Announced

The City of South Fulton was set to kick off its campaign to recruit 60 mentors for local youth just as the first case of coronavirus in city limits was announced. Now leaders are regrouping and announcing a virtual event to share the details of the city's partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBSMA), and how residents can get involved. For six decades, BBBSMA has been a much-needed resource for some of the most vulnerable children in the local community. However, the number of children on the organization's waitlist is outpacing the number of mentors stepping up to volunteer. In South Fulton alone, nearly 200 youth are waiting to be paired with a mentor in the program. City leaders are asking local residents to answer the call for volunteers and help BBBSMA...

Free Grow Box Giveaway Reopens for Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, South Fulton resident Mandisha Thomas is helping the community to learn to grow their own food. She, along with several partners, registered 50 South Fulton residents to receive all the items they need to start a home garden. Thomas has been sounding the alarm about food insecurity in South Fulton for several years. She tackled the topic last year on Earth Day during her inaugural Georgia Environmental Education and Awareness Symposium. She's also been named to the board of Market 166, an effort launched to bring a grocery co-op to the area and address local food deserts. Concerns about COVID-19-related food scarcity prompte...

Attorney Chris Stewart is known nationally for fighting on the front lines of the legal system, seeking justice for victims of police brutality. Now he's helping those on the front lines against COVID-19 get the supplies they desperately need. Stewart has committed 300 N-95 masks to the City of South Fulton's first responders. He'll deliver them to City Hall later today. Stewart first learned of the city's need after talking to his friend of over 20 years and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity brother Councilmember Mark Baker.
