Cam Newton Brings Enrich One Camp to South Fulton

Carolina Panthers Quarterback and South Fulton native Cam Newton is bringing the Enrich One Summer Camp Enrichment Program to his hometown this summer. The fun-filled camp sponsored by the Cam Newton Foundation gives children ages 6-14 exposure to experiential learning opportunities through STEM activities, college tours and fine arts. The summer enrichment program begins Monday, June 10 and will end Friday, July 19. Parents can register their children at The Kingdom of God International Ministry (4590 Welcome All Road) starting on Monday, June 3. Camp programming emphasizes character development, community service, team building, physical fitness, and educational enrichment. South Fulton Hosts 2nd Annual Senior Gala

 The City of South Fulton hosted its Senior Royale Gala on May 23 at Prince Hall Grand Lodge. Now in its second year, the event takes place during Older Americans Month. Georgia Public Broadcasting's Donna Lowry served as the event's emcee. Special guests included State Senator Donzella James, State Senator Nikema Williams and State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague. Fulton County Commissioner Natalie Hall was the gala's guest speaker. During the event, South Fulton recognized several Seniors who have made significant contributions to their communities by honoring them with "Crown Awards." Commissioner Arrington Hosts Annual Write to Rise Workshop

Starting June 1, Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. will host the third annual Write to Rise Young Writer’s Workshop and Competition in conjunction with Friends of Wolf Creek and Opus Cultural Lifestyle Magazine. The workshop and subsequent competition are available on a first-come-first-served basis to middle and high school students in Fulton County. Workshop sessions will be held at Wolf Creek Library (3100 Enon Road) on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. Community Cleanup Raises Funds for Schools, Spotlights Student Artists

For the second year in a row, City of South Fulton Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs partnered with Comcast for a community cleanup and school fundraiser. The event brought area families, city personnel and others together to tend to major corridors and beautify Cliftondale Park and Wolf Creek Library.  Finalists in the inaugural “Cleaner, Greener” mascot contest were also announced. Evoline C. West Elementary's Zaira Tai and Gianni Burton-Eind were the second and third place winners. First place went to Fulton Leadership Academy's Justin Riddick. South Fulton Eggstravaganza: The Hunt for 12,000 Eggs Begins Sunday

South Fulton residents are getting ready for a host of Easter events this Sunday. One of the highlights of the weekend will undoubtedly be the 2nd Annual Spring Eggstravaganza hosted by Old National Entertainment in partnership with the City of South Fulton. The event will take place on Easter Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Creel Park (2775 Creel Road). Attendees have lots to look forward to including live performances and a kids’ fashion show. A marketplace featuring youth vendors is also back this year. Event organizers have included it as a clever and fun way to teach tiny tycoons in the making about the ins and outs of entrepreneurship. On April 18, the South Fulton Human Services Coalition will hold its second annual summit from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA (2220 Campbellton Road, SW). The theme of the event is "The Urgency of Now: Transforming South Fulton County." Event organizers aim to closely examine socio-economic factors that impact residents, and how to attract much-needed resources to the area including workforce development and mental health services.  The summit brings together neighborhood leaders, business owners, faith-based volunteers, elected officials and service agency professionals to develop a shared vision of what makes a community vibrant and inclusive. South Fulton Announces Series of Community Cleanups

As Earth Day approaches, the City of South Fulton has announced a series of community cleanups. The first kicks off on March 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church (6175 Campbellton Road) in partnership with Mayor William "Bill" Edwards. It will include a health fair. The fair will feature health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, vision and dental and physical fitness. Attendees can also take advantage of free car seat checks, line dancing, games, refreshments and document shredding. Vendors include The Morehouse School of Medicine, GeorgiaCares SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Programs), Sickle Cell Foundation, Safe Kids, Social Security Administration and A.C. According to Eliese Fisher, president of the Cedar Grove Community Association (CGCA), the group is becoming “the force that our community needs.” For years, the association has provided information and taken action on a variety of issues facing its residents. In a recent email to area residents, the association shared that the Cedar Grove community is currently facing a number of challenges that are having an immediate and potentially long-term effect on the health, safety and wellbeing of residents. Councilwoman Gumbs Collects over 500 Dolls for Underserved Children

This year, more than 500 dolls were collected for underserved children at Bring Out the Dolls. Hosted by Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs and AIME, LLC Founder Tracy Rolle, the annual event rallies the South Fulton community around the “reason for the season.” The dolls will be distributed through a partnership with Help a Child America. “Knowing that you have made a child's Christmas a little brighter is one of the best gifts you can receive,” said Gumbs. “We are grateful to all of our partners and donors who make this annual event a success.
