Mausiki Scales, Atlanta Drum Academy Lead Red Oak Festival Lineup

The Annual Red Oak Art Festival returns to the City of South Fulton on Saturday, Oct. 15. Now in its second year, the festival promises an expanded lineup of artists, artisans and performers from across the metro Atlanta area. This year’s musical lineup includes performances by Mausiki Scales and Common Ground Collective, Planet Alstarz, local cellist Jenn Cornell, and classical guitarist Gladius.  A performance by the Atlanta Drum Academy is also planned. Members of the academy have been featured in film and television, including NBC’s Little Big Shots. South Fulton Mourns the Loss of Bohannon, Disco Legend and Resident

South Fulton joins the world in mourning the loss of disco legend and Motown star Hamilton Bohannon. The 78-year old resident died on Friday. In 2018, the City of South Fulton presented Bohannon with a proclamation in honor of his music career and work in the community. Councilmember Helen Willis said that upon the death of Aretha Franklin, she realized the importance of paying tribute to the city’s music legends while they were still alive. Bohannon was born to Willie and Sarah Bohannon in Newnan, Ga. He attended Clark College, now Clark Atlanta University and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Commissioner Arrington Hosts Annual Black History Film Festival This Weekend

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr. will host his annual Black History Film Festival this weekend. Films will highlight the unsung heroes and stories African-Americans in the struggle for civil rights and progress in America. The festival begins with an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Wolf Creek Library. Ellen DeGeneres recently surprised a Westlake High School alumnus with a brand new car. Army Sergeant Shakir Aquill appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show along with his mom, Lashandria Williamson. The two went viral last month when Aquill surprised Williamson, a resource officer at Therrell High School, after having been deployed overseas since 2016. South Fulton to be Represented for the First Time in Miss Georgia Teen Pageant

The city of South Fulton will be represented for the first time this fall in the Miss Georgia Teen USA pageant. The coveted sash will be worn by 16-year old Damacia Howard. According to pageant organizers at Greenwood Productions, hundreds of young women apply to compete. After reviewing Howard's application and interviewing her, they selected her to compete as Miss South Fulton Teen USA. Howard will take the stage and compete with approximately 50 others from the state of Georgia for the title.  Miss Georgia Teen USA is the preliminary for the Miss Teen USA pageant which is owned and produced by the Miss Universe organization.
