South Fulton City Hall Closes for Mold Remediation

City of South Fulton officials have announced that City Hall will be temporarily closed starting today, Feb. 20, due to the discovery of mold in the building. Extensive mold was found in three offices at 5440 Fulton Industrial Blvd. during recent inspections, prompting officials to take action. To fully address the issue, the landlord and the city have decided that substantial drywall removal is necessary in all impacted areas with exterior windows. While remediation work takes place, the Community Development and Regulatory Affairs (CDRA) department will relocate to 6095 Boat Rock Blvd. CDRA handles the intake and processing of land disturbance permits, building permits, plan review and other planning and zoning activities. Police Department to Activate School Zone Cameras Aug. 8

Ahead of the reactivation of South Fulton's school zone cameras on Aug. 8, motorists in the area are being encouraged to slow down. South Fulton first launched the Ren’gia Majors School Zone Safety Program in 2019. Majors, an 11-year-old Sandtown Middle School student, was killed in 2018 in a traffic accident in front of the school. Cameras now monitor speeds in 14 school zones throughout the city. City officials partner with Blue Line Solutions to manage the program. The number of cars traveling through South Fulton school zones has been reduced by approximately 25,000 annually, and the number of tickets issued has also substantially decreased. The City of South Fulton Charter Commission will convene for its next regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at City Hall, 5440 Fulton Industrial Blvd., and broadcast live via the city's YouTube channel. Citizens can review past meetings online and submit feedback to the commission via email at [email protected]. In accordance with the city’s charter, a review commission was established in May of this year, five years after the city's incorporation. Commission members are appointed by the mayor, city council and members of the Georgia House of Representatives and Senate whose district falls wholly or partially within the city. The Big Top Ed South Fulton Annual Golf Tournament will be held on September 16 at Wolf Creek Golf Club. Support South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, while building relationships that benefit the eight cities of South Fulton County. The event is sponsored by Your CBD Store. Public Art: South Fulton Makes Plans for a More Vibrant City

South Fulton’s Public Art Commission is soliciting feedback on the future of public art in the city via an online survey available through September 30. Input from the survey will be incorporated into the city’s first public art master plan.  Input is sought from residents, city leaders and personnel, business owners, local artists, and other stakeholders. Feedback will help to guide future programming and funding priorities.  Two projects have been completed in South Fulton this year. A “paint by numbers” mural was produced by artist Vernon Robinson in collaboration with community members at Sandtown Park in April. Early Voting Begins Today, Six Sites Available in South Fulton

Early voting in Georgia for the May 24 Primary Election begins today. 30 polling sites are available in Fulton County. Residents will be able to vote from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, including weekend voting on Saturdays and Sundays. Early voting will end on Friday, May 20.During early voting, absentee ballot drop boxes will be available at seven early voting locations, including Wolf Creek Library. Drop boxes are located inside early voting locations and are only accessible during early voting hours.  Among the high profile contests on the ballot include races for Georgia governor and U.S. senate. Ways to Give Back in South Fulton on MLK Day Weekend

There will be multiple ways to give back to the community over the long weekend in observance of MLK Day, also recognized as a national day of service. District 1 Councilwoman Catherine Rowell will join Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land for an event to beautify the Campbellton Creek Nature Preserve. The event will be held on Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. Participants should meet event organizers between Plummer Road and Riverside Drive in South Fulton. South Fulton PRCA to Hold Master Plan Open House on Jan. 29

The City of South Fulton Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) and the Parks and Recreation System Master Plan Consulting Team will hold an open house on Jan. 29. Residents are invited to attend. Residents will be able to learn more about the citywide Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Master Plan and provide ideas for how its findings may relate to individual parks.
