South Fulton Events: It’s Fall Y’all!

Today marks the first day of fall, and a number of events are planned in and around South Fulton over the next few weeks to embrace the new season and take advantage of cooler temperatures. South Fulton Branch Library (4055 Flat Shoals Road, South Fulton) introduces Storytime: Hello, Fall! this week on September 25 at 10:30 a.m. Children will listen to stories, participate in music and movement and make a craft to take home. The event is for children 3-6. King Creations Personal Chef Service will host a Beginners Candy Class from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on October 12 and October 26 at 6225 Hwy 92. Another Bad Creation to Reunite at Funk Fest at Wolf Creek Amphitheater

Funk Fest marks the close of the summer outdoor concert season at Wolf Creek Amphitheater. The two-day music event kicking off tonight brings out a number of old school hip hop and R&B favorites. The Friday night lineup will include YoungBloodz, 112, Field Mob, Ghetto Mafia, Raheem the Dream, Crime Mob, Young Dro, Lil Scrappy, Dem Franchize Boyz and more. Fans will also get to witness the reunion of Another Bad Creation (ABC). The group rose to fame in the 1990s with his like “Iesha” and “Playground.” The Saturday lineup will include Guy featuring Teddy Riley, Blackstreet featuring Dave Hollister, Mystikal, Scarface, SWV and more. 5th Annual Old Nat Day Set for Sept. 1

Old Nat Day returns to Old National Park on Sunday, September 1. The fun-filled event presented by Old National Entertainment (O.N.E.) is held annually on Labor Day weekend and is now in its fifth year. Old Nat Day was first launched in 2015 by Torrey Tomlinson. He’s not only the founder of O.N.E., but also one of the Old National corridor’s most vocal and visible ambassadors. He created the event to combat the negative narrative surrounding the area, and each year he broadcasts a message of peace and positivity, with a call to action to stop the violence. True Colors’ 17th Season to Showcase Women Playwrights, Stories

A study conducted by the Dramatist’s Guild and the Lilly Awards found that only 3.4 percent of plays on American stages are written by women of color. True Colors Theatre Company's new artistic director, Jamil Jude, aims to help change that. The theatre company's 17th season themed "She Griots" will open in September. Two of the plays, Paradise Blue and School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play are written by black women. The third tells the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a music legend who influenced industry giants, and her protégée Marie Knight. First up on September 24 is Paradise Blue written by Dominique Morisseau, and directed by Jude. South Fulton City Manager to Give TED Talk on the ‘Future of Work’

South Fulton City Manager Odie Donald II will deliver a TED talk on "The Future of Work: Is a Job Enough" on August 17 at Frederick Douglass High School. Prior to joining the city as its head administrator, Donald was the Director of the Washington, D.C. Department of Employment Services. He is credited with helping nearly half a million people find jobs through government programs. Launched 30 years ago, TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to "ideas worth spreading." The organization's annual conferences feature talks by the world's leading thinkers and doers including Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson. Southwest Library to Reopen and be Renamed on July 2

The Fulton County Library System has announced the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Southwest Library, located at 3665 Cascade Road SW, Atlanta 30331, which will take place on Tuesday, July 2 at 11:30 a.m. In addition to unveiling the renovation, the library will also be renamed in honor of the late Evelyn Lowery, changing the name of the facility to the Evelyn G. Food Festival Brings Black-Owned Spirits to South Fulton

Taste of Sofu, South Fulton's newest food and entertainment festival, kicked off earlier this month. The event brings live entertainment, food trucks and business vendors to the Southwest Arts Center on the first and third Tuesday of the month, now through October. So far, attendees have sampled barbecue, vegan dishes, cuisine from New Orleans, Italian ice and more. They've also had an opportunity to pair their dishes with Black-owned spirits, beers and wines. Alcohol Heroes, a Taste of Sofu vendor, is a mobile bar and catering service launched 10 years ago by Scott and Tiffany Richardson. Their menus regularly feature Black-owned brands. Father's Day is June 16 and there are several events taking place to celebrate and honor South Fulton's dads. Councilwoman Naeema Gilyard will host a Father's Day Appreciation event in partnership with Arlington Christian School (4500 Ridge Road) on June 15 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event will include free food and drinks and a special surprise. Divine Nine 5K Returns to Welcome All Park on June 8

The Divine Nine 5K returns to Welcome All Park on June 8. Now in its fourth year, the annual race attracts hundreds of participants to raise funds for college scholarships and community programs. Participants are welcome to run, jog or walk. For those up to the challenge, event organizers have added a 9K course. The Divine Nine 5K is organized by the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Greater Atlanta (NPHC Atlanta), a non-profit that serves as a local chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a collaborative organization of the nine historic Black Greek Lettered fraternities and sororities.  It is a graduate council and has representatives from more than 20 chapters in the metropolitan Atlanta area.   Registration for the Divine Nine 5K is $35 and includes a t-shirt, chip tim...
