75 Fulton County Schools Accepting Transfers, Application Deadline May 16

The Fulton County School System has identified 75 schools accepting transfer students next school year through Georgia’s Quality Basic Education Act (HB251). Approved in 2009, the Intra-District School Choice section of the law allows parents of students enrolled in a public K-12 school to enroll in another school within the district if space allows. The application deadline is Monday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m., and parents will be notified of their child’s transfer status on June 30. South Fulton to Hold Spring Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 21

South Fulton will hold its annual Spring Cleanup Day this year on Saturday, May 21. The city will accept bulky items for free disposal at Merk Miles Transfer Station, 3070 Merk Road, and Creel Park, 2775 Creel Road. Paper shredding will be available at Merk Road only. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gates will close at 1:30 p.m. Free disposal is available only to South Fulton residents. The city will accept cardboard, furniture, garbage, paint and a maximum of four tires. Items that will not be accepted include: commercial vehicles; rented trucks; yard waste; ammunition; biohazard or biomedical waste; batteries; construction demolition debris; and hazardous chemicals. The Fulton County Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, May 3 at the Fulton County School District’s North Learning Center, at 450 Northridge Parkway in Sandy Springs. A series of sessions is planned for the day, including the first budget hearing. The day's agenda items include the Superintendent's report, a report on K-8 STEAM, a facilities master plan update, public comment, and monthly recognition of student and staff accomplishments. Early Voting Begins Today, Six Sites Available in South Fulton

Early voting in Georgia for the May 24 Primary Election begins today. 30 polling sites are available in Fulton County. Residents will be able to vote from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, including weekend voting on Saturdays and Sundays. Early voting will end on Friday, May 20.During early voting, absentee ballot drop boxes will be available at seven early voting locations, including Wolf Creek Library. Drop boxes are located inside early voting locations and are only accessible during early voting hours.  Among the high profile contests on the ballot include races for Georgia governor and U.S. senate. South Fulton Restauranteur Gocha Hawkins to Open Tapas Bar

Gocha Hawkins, owner of Gocha’s Breakfast Bar, has plans to open a tapas bar in April. The new restaurant will be located at 5829 Campbellton Rd. in the Sandtown Crossing development anchored by Publix. The restaurant will have a 1,500-square-foot interior and a 2,100-square-foot patio. Among the items planned for the menu include shishito peppers, Impossible sliders, stuffed crab mushrooms, fried green tomatoes with crab salad, cauliflower tacos and lobster rolls. The tapas bar will also have a full bar and cocktail list.
